A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with five telephone fraud cases by impersonating officers.
Police seized a fake mainland police warrant card and forged mainland court documents.
The force received reports earlier that a man claimed to be a police officer from Yunfu City. The 20-year-old then told victims that they were involved in a crime and demanded them to hand over a security deposit to prove their innocence. The suspect met victims in various locations including Tuen Mun and Mong Kok and presented fake documents.
After the tip-off, the police identified a 20-year-old man and arrested him yesterday.
The suspect claimed to be a university student who had been recruited by a scam syndicate, and was suspected of being involved in a number of fraud cases from July to September.
