Tropical Cyclone Matmo over the seas east of the Philippines will move across Luzon tomorrow (3 October) and enter within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong later.
The Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1 tomorrow night.
According to the present forecast, Matmo will move in the general direction of the vicinity of the coast of western Guangdong to the eastern part of Hainan Island over the weekend and intensify gradually. Locally, the weather will become unsettled later on Saturday (4 October) to Sunday (5 October) and it will be windy.
Seas will be rough with swells. There will also be occasional squally showers. Depending on the distance between Matmo and the Pearl River Estuary, its intensity and the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals during the day on Saturday.
