Tropical Cyclone Matmo will move closer to vicinity of Luzon and intensify gradually

Tropical Depression Matmo has intensified into a tropical storm. At 10 a.m., Matmo was centred about 650 kilometres east of Manila. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour closer to the vicinity of Luzon and continue to intensify.
Tropical Cyclone Matmo will move across the central and northern parts of the South China Sea over the weekend, in the general direction of the vicinity of the coast of western Guangdong to the eastern part of Hainan Island.
However, its intensity remains uncertain. It will be windy with squally showers over the coast of southern China. Seas will be rough with swells. With the anticyclone aloft strengthening again, showers will ease off gradually and the weather will improve over the coast of Guangdong on the Mid-Autumn Festival and the day after.
Under the persistent influence of an anticyclone aloft, the weather will be generally fine and very hot over southern China today and tomorrow.
