A wartime bomb found at a construction site in Quarry Bay forced the evacuation of 6,000 residents earlier this month.
It was later defused by police bomb disposal officers without any injuries.
One of the officers said on TVB's Straight Talk programme that more bombs are likely to be found in future as new building are constructed.
RAYMOND SURYANTO CHIN-CHIU, Senior Bomb Disposal Officer, EOD: "After World War II, a lot of these areas were reconstructed with some sort of post-World War II high-rise building. But usually the level of the highness is relatively low. I'm talking about maybe five to ten stories high. But you look back in time, now it's another generation. It's 80 years after the war. And it's another generation that the buildings built during that era are about to be demolished and will get rebuilt again. And the new building, definitely, you know the whole thing will be high, you know, 40 something storeys high, and you will dig deeper. So the more of these things will be surfacing."
Suryanto also explained why the bomb was incinerated rather than detonated.
He said cutting the bomb open allowed the consumption of all the explosives inside by low temperature thermite, which is a relatively low burning explosive.
