Unveiling its latest long-term housing strategy, the government says it aims to supply 420,000 new homes over the next 10 years. That's 20,000 units fewer than last year's target.

Announced by the Housing Bureau, the public-private housing ratio will remain at 70:30 from fiscal year 2026/27 to 2035/36, with 294,000 public housing units, 14,000 units fewer than last year.

For private units, the administration sets a target of 126,000 also lower than the goal last year -- by 6,000.

Authorities say sufficient land has been secured to meet the public housing goal.

In the next five years, around 169,500 public housing units are expected to be completed, averaging more than 30,000 units annually -- the highest in 24 years.

The government stresses it will maintain flexibility to adjust public housing construction in line with changing needs.
