President Xi Jinping attended ceremony on Martyrs' Day

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Today is the 12th Martyrs' Day. A wreath-laying ceremony was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing this morning to honour the people's heroes. President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended.
The ceremony took place at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Monument to the People's Heroes in the centre of Tiananmen Square.
Xi Jinping and other leaders of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, as well as representatives from the community attended the ceremony.
The national anthem was played. Guards of honor then presented a wreath. Xi Jinping adjusted the ribbon on the wreath.
National leaders paid their respects at the Monument to the People's Heroes. Children and other representatives from also laid flowers and paid their respects at the monument.
In 2014, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress voted to designate September 30th of each year as Martyrs' Day to promote the spirit of the martyrs and foster patriotism among citizens.
