The U.S. state of Oregon has filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's move to send military forces to the city of Portland.
This as Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered 200 National Guard troops to be deployed in the Democratic-run city.
Oregon's Attorney General Dan Rayfield said the lawsuit seeks an injunction blocking any troop deployment on the grounds that Trump does not have authority to do so.
The lawsuit argues that the situation does not constitute an invasion or rebellion or a situation where federal laws cannot otherwise be executed.
Rayfield said, "The President's action today only serve to further divide us as a nation, as a community, under the guise of caring about public safety."
