Moldova's pro-Western ruling party is on the verge of winning a crucial parliamentary election -- a reli ef for the government as it seeks to continue siding with the European Union. 

Modolvan soldiers were seen casting their votes earlier. 

With 99 percent of the votes counted, the incumbent Party of Action and Solidarity had a share of 49.99 percent. 

It holds a large lead over the Patriotic Bloc, which is pro-Russian and secured 24.28 percent of the votes. 

Moldova has been buffeted by the war in neighbouring Ukraine, alleged Russian interference and energy shortage. 

The buildup to the election was marred by accusations of foul play by both sides.
