Embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams has dropped his bid for a second term.

He faced a federal bribery indictment but was cleared so that he could help with President Donald Trump's immigration agenda.

His departure from the mayoral race effectively leaves the contest to frontrunner Democrat Zohran Mamdani and former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Adams had struggled to raise money and trailed far behind Mamdani and Cuomo in public opinion polls.

Mamdani holds a sizeable lead, while recent polls show single-digit support for both Adams and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Adam's campaign was severely wounded by both the bribery case and anger over his warm relationship with Trump.
