A mainland new energy vehicle company has rolled out the first batch of NEV all-terrain driving tracks, offering motorists the chance to experience a range of circuits, including driving across water.
In extreme weather conditions, vehicles may need to navigate through water.
Here at this circuit in Zhengzhou, visitors can see breakthroughs in water-crossing with vehicles able to move forward and turn in water.
Another zone is this sand dune area, some nearly 30 metres high, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the thrills of desert driving.
Electric vehicles on-site also demonstrate automatic parking, particularly helpful when it comes to negotiating narrow spaces.
The company invested 5 billion yuan in building a batch of all-terrain circuits, including in Zhengzhou, Hefei, Shaoxing and other regions.
It not only provides entertainment value for car lovers, but also as a training base for racing drivers.
Li Yunfei, BYD's general manager of branding and public relations, said that the brand will continue operating the circuits even if they are not profitable.
He explained that the Chinese mainland only has 21 racing circuits, which he says is disproportionate to its advanced development in the electric vehicles industry.
It also lags behind in the fostering of a car culture and the brand is hoping to take the lead in changing that.
Tickets for the circuit experience range from around 600 to 6,000 yuan. Visitors need to make an appointment before coming.
BYD's total sales of new energy vehicles reached 4.2 million last year, with the overseas market accounting for about 10 percent.
The company currently focuses on three overseas markets -- the Asia Pacific, Europe and Central America.
Li Yunfei said they will evaluate whether to build more factories in those regions.
