A U.S. man has been charged with murder after he admitted killing his parents during a TV interview.
Lorenz Kraus was apprehended after leaving the studios where he made the stunning confession after being pushed by the interviewer.
Police were already investigating, having recovered the bodies of Franz and Theresia Kraus from a home in Albany, New York.
Both were still receiving Social Security payments despite not having been seen in years.
The 53-year-old says he buried his frail and ageing parents eight years ago after doing his duty as a son.
Here is Lorenz Kraus story in his own words taken from his interview with CBS 6:
"My concern for their misery was paramount and it was a huge burden to have to face this coming up."
"What did you use to suffocate them?"
"For my father my hand, for my mother a rope."
"So you strangled her?"
"Yeah that seemed better."
"It was strangulation not suffocation?"
"Well it's the same, denial of oxygen and blood circulation."
"so you cut off the oxygen for both of them that was you method?"
"Yeah."
"Now this came to light and the police are investigating do you have any regrets?"
"I did the right thing for them based on the situation. I did my duty to them as a son and that's, everything fell into place. I don't know how it happened but it all fell into place."
So you parents' deceased bodies were in your house with you for two or three days?"
"Right. Right."
"And then you decided you had to do something to cover up your crimes?"
"Or properly bury them and send them on their way?"
"I needed to, basically, I had to bury them."
"Was the burial to cover up your crime? You didn't want to be found out?"
"Right of course, what to do."
"What was going through your head?"
"Not thoughts, action. Make sure it is done and not fool around, not make a mistake, but I am sure the police are going to say what an incompetent idiot I am with that."
