Colombia's President Gustavo Petro accused the United States of violating international law after his visa was revoked as he returned home from the United Nations General Assembly.

Petro marched and then made an impromptu speech outside the U.N. in New York at a pro-Palestinian rally organised to coincide with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address on Friday.

Colombia's first leftist leader called on "Soldiers of the U.S. not to point their rifles."

Petro said they should "disobey Trump's orders."

The U.S. State Department revoked Petro's visa after what it calls his "reckless and incendiary actions."

Washington did not say if Petro would receive one in the future as he flew back to Colombia on Saturday as planned.

Tensions between Colombia and the U.S. have been strained after deportations and U.S. attacks on drug smuggling boats.
