Sources say Chinese tech giant ByteDance will maintain ownership of TikTok's U.S. assets but cede control of its data, content and algorithm to a new joint venture.

Details of the ownership structure are still under discussion.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order earlier this week to approve a plan to sell the app's U.S. operations to a consortium of investors as required under a 2024 law.

The new joint venture is said to be valued at 14 billion U.S. dollars, in which ByteDance will be the single largest minority shareholder, according to media reports.

Republican lawmaker John Moolenaar, chairman of a House committee, indicated he would be conducting full oversight of the deal.

He said divestment is not enough, and that the deal should prelude operational ties between ByteDance and the new entity.
