As a sewage pipe in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island was severely damaged during Super Typhoon Ragasa, the Drainage Services Department urged residents not to swim in the nearby Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department also closed the beaches, but some people continued to swim.
Workers repaired the damaged sewage pipe below Mill and Chung Path off Island Road this morning.
A red flag was hoisted at Deep Water Bay Beach, and there were no lifeguards manning the lookout.
However, some people continued to enter the beach and swam. Some people were also seen kayaking outside the shark nets.
An announcement was made at the beach urging residents not to engage in water activities.
According to the Environmental Protection Department's website, the water quality at Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay beaches is forecast to be extremely poor.
