In his speech to the U.N. General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump condemned moves by Western powers to recognise a Palestinian state.
He also mentioned Iran in his address, saying he had sent the country's supreme leader a letter pledging "full cooperation" in exchange for Iran suspending its nuclear programme.
This as Iran's supreme leader rejected direct negotiations with Washington over the issue.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York Tuesday U.S. President Donald Trump said he had sent Iran's supreme leader a letter.
"Starting with the nation of Iran," said Trump. "My position is very simple. The world's number one sponsor of terror can never be allowed to possess the most dangerous weapon. That's why shortly after taking office,
"I sent the so-called supreme leader a letter, making a generous offer. I extended a pledge of full cooperation in exchange for a suspension of Iran's nuclear programme. The regime's answer was to continue their constant threats to their neighbours and U.S. interests throughout the region."
On the conflict between Israel and Hamas, Trump demanded the Palestinian group immediately release all hostages, living and dead, that it is holding in Gaza, saying the time for partial release is over.
"I have also been deeply engaged in seeking a ceasefire in Gaza," said Trump. "Have to get that done. But instead of giving in to Hamas's ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message: Release the hostages now."
The U.S. has criticised several European nations, including allies, for recognising a Palestinian state, which Trump calls rewarding Hamas for the October 7th, 2023 attacks on Israel that sparked the current conflict.
Said Trump: "We can't forget October 7th, can we? Now as if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state, the rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for the atrocities. This would be reward for these horrible atrocities."
