A group of U.S. lawmakers talked up a big Boeing deal during a visit to Beijing.
The U.S. ambassador to China, David Purdue, says negotiations are close to completion.
Adam Smith, a U.S. Democratic Representative leading the bipartisan delegation on the China visit, told a press conference on Tuesday that they had raised the deal with top Chinese leaders, which could see China buy more Boeing planes.
Ambassador Purdue said he thought the negotiations had entered their last days or weeks.
Bloomberg reported last month that Boeing is in talks to sell as many as 500 planes to China.
If successfully concluded, the deal would represent a major breakthrough for the company in the world's second-largest aviation market.
Boeing historically sent around a quarter of its planes to China, though it has not secured a major Chinese purchase since President Donald Trump's first term in office.
