The Hong Kong Observatory issued the No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal at 1:20 p.m after downgrading the Hurricane Signal No. 10 which had been in force for some 10 hours.
Dubbed "the strongest tropical storm on earth" this year, Super Typhoon Ragasa is currently about 160 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong as it moves west or westnorthwest at 22 kilometres per hour past the city.
The forecaster says the city's weather will be persistently adverse today wtih frequent heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
The public should stay away from the shoreline and do not engage in watersport.
