Hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed at the airport today as a result of Super Typhoon Ragasa.

Under Super Typhoon Ragasa, the airport's departure hall remains busy. Travellers gathered in front of flight schedule boards to check if their journeys were disrupted by adverse weather.

For Cathay Pacific Airways alone, more than 500 short and long-haul flights are expected to be cancelled during the storm.

Many passengers came to the airport to reschedule their flights or to resolve any hiccups in their travel plans.

A traveller named Sai said: "I was supposed to go to Auckland, New Zealand from Hong Kong tonight at 9 o'clock. Now it has been rescheduled to Thursday, which is why I am here to get customer care because I don't want to go through Australia. It has scheduled me to go through Australia. I can only do Thursday because I have a conference to attend on Friday and Saturday."

"I was supposed to fly to Sydney," said another man. "But now I will reschedule my flight to early or mid-October. My school starts around that time, so the cancellation does not affect me much."

Travellers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and should only proceed to the airport when their flight times and seats are confirmed.

To assist stranded travellers during the storm, the Airport Authority has set up a temporary rest area with chairs and mobile charging stations. Some relief items are offered to passengers, including water.

A Filipino family of 12 planned to return to Manila on Tuesday. Now, they aim to leave the city by Friday.

"At least the kids can stay here, sleep here," said Ebony. "Stay in the airport? Yes, for us. At least it's safer."

The Airport Authority says the terminal building will stay open during the storm.
