Two department heads of the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Medical Centre were arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption on suspicion of falsifying work records to claim extra income. Both were dismissed from the hospital last Thursday.

After taking office in July, CUHK Medical Centre CEO Chung Kin-lai flagged unusual financial entries while reviewing departmental accounts.

Internal investigations revealed irregularities in reported workload and the corresponding income of two department heads. The two department heads have been released on bail pending further ICAC investigation.

The hospital says it has set up an internal committee with external auditors to look into the matter and will explain the results to the public.

It stressed that the incident involved individual staff members but did not affect the hospital's operations.
