In Chief Executive John Lee's policy address, he made it clear the Northern Metropolis is the government's priority.
Speaking on TVB's Straight Talk programme, he said the project will have an uplifting effect in a way similar to the widely admired Kai Tak Sports Centre, but on a larger scale.
JOHN LEE, Chief Executive: "The analogy I have been using is look at Kai Tak Sports Centre. Everybody who's been to it or everybody who stepped their foot on it will almost immediately feel greater. The level of Hong Kong has improved. And I think Northern Metropolis will do that effect in much bigger scale, and also will bring us this long-term progression to much higher levels. If Kai Tak Sports Stadium can help us do that, one third of Hong Kong's geographical area can certainly can do much, much greater. And that is why I think we need to focus on it."
The CE said more money is needed to develop the Northern Metropolis, and he welcomes international money, mainland money, as well as local money to invest.
He said international money is already coming in to invest in the project.
