At least three people fell into the sea in Chai Wan.
Two of them, including a child, have lost consciousness.
Reportedly, a mother and a son from a family of four were swept by waves into the sea and the father jumped into the water in a bid to save them.
At about 3 p.m., some members of the public tried to use ropes to rescue them from the shore.
A speedboat later reached the site and rescued the trio in the waters off Chai Wan.
It is believed that one of them -- a woman -- had already passed out.
The other person held on to the front of the vessel but struggled to board the boat.
Firefighters also rushed to the scene and performed CPR on the child and the woman.
After that, the child was taken ashore.
The man floating near the boat could be seen putting on a life jacket and boarded the speedboat.
The child was later stretchered away.
The other two were taken to Eastern Hospital for treatment.
