HK logs one more imported chikungunya fever case

The city reports one new imported case of chikungunya fever. The patient was sent to hospital when he returned to Hong Kong through the Shenzhen Bay Port.

The infected man, aged 42, living in Cheung Sha Wan, visited Foshan, Guangdong alone from September 13th to 20th. He developed fever, joint pain, bone pain, rash, muscle pain and headache last Wednesday. After passing through the Shenzhen Bay Port yesterday, he was found to have a fever when he returned to Hong Kong and was arranged to seek medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of Tuen Mun Hospital. The test results showed that he was diagnosed with the chikungunya fever virus.

He is currently hospitalised and in stable condition. His three household contacts are asymptomatic and are all under medical surveillance. 

A total of 22 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever have been recorded in Hong Kong this year. All are imported cases.
