Britain, Canada and Australia have officially recognised a Palestinian state.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says the UK is formally recognising a Palestinian state.

In a statement Sunday, Starmer said the move is part of a process to bring about an end to the conflict in Gaza and help promote a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also announced on Sunday that his country now recognises the state of Palestine. Carney said in a statement that Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers their partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel.

Australia too, formally recognises the State of Palestine.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a joint statement with Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Sunday that Australia was recognising Palestine alongside Canada and Britain as part of an effort to revive momentum for a two-state solution that starts with a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held there.
