Serbia staged its "largest ever military parade" in Belgrade, showcasing tanks, missile systems and fighter jets in what officials described as the country's biggest display of army strength in its history.

A 300-metre giant Serbia flag was unfurled as the national anthem was sung.

The "Power of Unity" parade saw President Aleksandar Vucic along with foreign dignitaries review about 10,000 troops.

Vucic saying the show of force underscored Serbia's ability to defend its independence and sovereignty.

The president posted his "pride" as more than 600 vehicles, 70 aircraft and 20 vessels were put on show.

Columns of troops marched through the capital as crowds waved national flags, while aircraft roared overhead.

Drones purchased from the UAE as well as tanks supplied by Russia and anti-aircraft systems from China were displayed.

What caught most of the attention of military experts was an Israeli rocket artillery platform capable of launching a range of munitions with varying ranges and payloads.
