Brussels Airport says cancellations will persist on Sunday after a cyberattack hit the external provider of its check-in and boarding systems.
Airlines have been asked to cancel half of the day's scheduled departing flights due to the ongoing disruption. Passengers were advised to confirm their flight status with airlines before going to the airport.
A European Commission spokesperson says that the Commission is closely monitoring the incident.
Aviation safety and air traffic control remain unaffected.
Germany's Berlin's Brandenburg Airport said a service provider for passenger check-in was attacked on Friday as disruption was also caused there.
Flights were delayed at Heathrow in London as extra staff had to be called in several airports across Europe.
Hackers are being blamed and although the attack is on airport check-in portals but it is the airlines that are having to cope with the chaos caused.
Collins Aerospace provides the technology that allows passengers to check themselves in, print boarding passes and bag tags, and dispatch their own luggage, all from a kiosk.
Collins said it was "aware of a cyber-related disruption" to its MUSE (Multi-User System Environment) software at "select airports" but that manual check-in operations could still be used.
