68-year-old woman arrested after her grandson throws objects from height

Police arrested a woman on suspicion of neglecting to take care of a child following a suspected case of throwing objects from a height in Sham Shui Po.

The ground floor of Fu Cheong Estate is strewn with items, including a broom, a fan, an umbrella and glasses.

Police received a report at nearly 7 p.m. that objects were thrown from a height. Investigations revealed that they were allegedly hurled from a unit on the 8th floor. Officer later found an 11-year-old boy in the flat who was emotionally charged and continued to throw objects out of the window. 

Police then reached out to his 68-year-old grandmother and learned she had headed out to shop for groceries at the time of the incident, leaving the boy alone at home. The elderly woman was later arrested.

It is understood that the boy suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and moderate intellectual disability, requiring follow-up treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital. 

No one was injured in the incident. The boy was sent to Caritas Hospital for treatment.
