At Taoyuan Airport in Taipei, a Hong Kong traveller was injured after she was flung out of an unlicensed taxi during a dramatic car chase between police and the vehicle.

Hoping to stop the driver from fleeing local officers fired eight shots during the pursuit.

The incident unfolded at about 9 a.m. at the airport's Terminal 1.

A female passenger boarded a white Tesla private car.

When airport police approached the vehicle for inspection, the private car accelerated in reverse in an attempt to flee.

Two police officers fired eight shots at the car and asked the driver to get out of the car.

During the driver's bid to escape, the female passenger from Hong Kong tumbled out of the car, reportedly because of an unsecured door.

She was later sent to hospital with leg injuries.

The 43-year-old male driver was arrested.

Authorities said the driver has a record of illegal taxi operations and is facing charges related to public endangerment.
