Donald Trump says a preliminary deal to allow TikTok to survive in the U.S. has been agreed after a two-hour conversation with President Xi Jinping.

America threatened to ban the popular app unless it can be run by an American company because it is worried about Chinese government influence.

Beijing denies it puts pressure on parent company ByteDance.

Xi's statement said "The Chinese government respects the will of firms and welcomes companies to conduct business negotiations on the basis of market rules," with full details of what the deal entails and which company would takeover TikTok not yet disclosed.

NBC reports.
