Israeli fighter jets over the Red Sea launched ballistic missiles to target Hamas leaders in Qatar last week, the Associated Press reported, citing a U.S. defence official.

The September 9th attack killed six people, though the Hamas leaders survived the attack. The Israeli strike has upended months of diplomacy, with Qatar, along with Egypt and the U.S., acting as mediators.

Meanwhile, Israel's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Gaza is a potential real estate bonanza once the war is over.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians flee Gaza City, with Israel continuing its bombardment from the air and invasion by land forces.

Some are choosing to go south, with Israel saying they are opening up corridors for 48 hours to allow Palestinians to leave the city.

Officials say up to 350,000 are moving to nearby areas. Around half a million can neither afford to leave nor want to, jaded by two years of war, famine and being displaced multiple times.

As they contemplate an uncertain future, Israel's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is already talking about turning what is now a land of desolation into a future "real estate bonanza."

Speaking at an urban renewal conference in Tel Aviv, Smotrich said a business plan for Gaza is already on the table of U.S. President Donald Trump.

We paid a lot of money for this war, so we need to decide how to divide the percentages of the land marketing later in Gaza, he said.

We've done the demolition phase, which is always the first phase of urban renewal. Now we need to build. It's much cheaper.

Smotrich is among the far right allies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who have been accused of having genocidal intent for the people of Gaza.

This as more Western countries push for a two-state solution, with Luxembourg the latest European country to pledge recognition of a Palestine state at next week's United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden said his move is not an act against the Israeli people, nor is it an act against Jews in Israel and around the world.

Britain and France are among the more than 10 countries set to recognise Palestine at the U.N.

Meanwhile, protesters dressed in white, with blood representing hostages killed during the war in Gaza, gathered near Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

Michel Iluz, father of hostage Guy Iluz, whose body is believed to be held in Gaza, lay down on the ground next to the protesters in white.

We will fight for the return of our children and the restoration of the Israeli ethos, he told the crowd.
