After delivering the Policy Address yesterday, Chief Executive John Lee attended a Legislative Council Q&A session and responded to questions from Legislative Council members regarding the Policy Address.
Some members expressed concern about whether a cap on the importation of foreign workers would be imposed, especially if the unemployment rate rises in certain sectors.
Lee said: "All applications for imported workers are strictly reviewed. We have introduced measures. In addition to extending the time required to prove cannot hire suitable workers certain sectors from four weeks to six weeks, we will continue to monitor the situation."
"First, for these 2 occupations, which account for the largest proportion of imported workers (nearly half), if the results prove to be viable, we will consider new measures if the situation still does not meet the requirements."
