Standby Signal No.1 to remain in force today.

The observatory will assess the need of issuing higher storm warning signals tomorrow, depending on the intensity of the tropical cyclone that is moving across the northeastern part of the South China Sea, the distance of its strong winds from Hong Kong and the change in local wind conditions.

According to the present forecast, the tropical cyclone will intensify gradually while edging closer to the coast of eastern Guangdong today and tomorrow.

The circulation of the tropical cyclone is relatively small and it will maintain a distance of about 300 kilometres or more for most of the time today.
