Prosecutors in the U.S. are preparing to file a capital murder charge against Tyler Robinson, the Utah man arrested in the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Charges against the 22-year-old are expected to come ahead of the first court hearing since he was accused last week of the shooting.
This as U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and another top Trump official argue that serving the memory of Kirk means pursuing left-leaning groups
they portray as bent on undermining national unity.
Tracey Furniss reports.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance guest-hosting Charlie Kirk's talk show Monday.
"Hi everybody, J.D. Vance here live from my office in the White House complex and filling in for somebody who cannot be filled in for. But I'm going to do my best.
My dear friend, the great Charlie Kirk."
On the show too Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. "The last message that Charlie sent me was, I think it was just the day before we lost him, which was that we need to have an organised strategy to go after the left-wing organisations that are promoting violence in this country. And I will write those words onto my heart, and I will carry them out."
When President Trump was asked if he believed Tyler Robinson the suspect in Kirk's assassination acted alone he said he didn't know but that he was radicalised.
"It looks like he became radicalised over the Internet and it seems like he has wonderful parents, brought up in a wonderful neighbourhood, smart guy, great boards, great marks, great student. And then he, something happened to him over a fairly short period of time. Looks like he was radicalised over the internet, and it's radicalised on the left. He's a left. A lot of problems with the left, and they get protected, and they shouldn't be protected."
This as prosecutors in Utah County are considering several charges against the suspect Tyler Robinson, the most serious being aggravated murder as it could bring the death penalty if there is a conviction.
Meanwhile investigators have been piecing together evidence, including a rifle and ammunition engraved with anti-fascist and meme culture messaging, found after the shooting Wednesday at Utah Valley University where Kirk had been speaking just before he was shot and killed.
