U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced they have reached a framework deal with China on the issue of TikTok.

Bessent said: "We have a framework for a TikTok deal. The two leaders, President Trump and party chair Xi, will speak on Friday to complete the deal. We will be holding trade negotiations in about a month again at a different location, but we talked about many things that we might do in the future."

"The framework is for it to switch to U.S.-controlled ownership, but again, I'm not going to get ahead of the leader's call on Friday. We have a framework. They'll have to confirm the deal."

Bessent added TikTok's divestment deadline could be extended by 90 days to allow the deal to be finalised.

He added the commercial terms for TikTok will preserve U.S. national security interests and aspects that Chinese negotiators care about, including the app's "Chinese characteristics," which they deem as soft power.
