This year's seasonal influenza vaccination programme will commence next Thursday.

Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau, along with senior health officials, received their vaccinations today to encourage the public to get vaccinated early.

A group of senior health officials visited the Sai Wan Ho General Out-patient Clinic to get vaccinated this afternoon.

Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau and Director of Health Ronald Lam led by example and received both the Sinovac quadrivalent influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine in their arms.

Chairman of the Hospital Authority Henry Fan and Chief Executive of the HA Libby Lee also received vaccinations.

They urged the public to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Professor Lo said although there is no specific data on the use of the Sinovac influenza vaccine for pregnant women, it is not contraindicated, adding that the government also provides other vaccine options for the public.

"The choice is based on medical reason, there's different platforms of vaccines, different source, different way of administration, but we do not need to choose the brand." Lo said.

Over the past two weeks, there have been 88 outbreaks in schools and residential care homes, with over 800 people infected.

The Centre for Health Protection noted that this reflects a gradual increase in influenza virus activity. They reminded the public that it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop, and urged everyone to get vaccinated early.

In addition to getting vaccinated against influenza, the public is also reminded to maintain good hygiene practices, including wearing masks when visiting high-risk venues or experiencing flu symptoms.
