The 2025 Macao Legislative Assembly Election was held today.
As of 6 p.m., voter turnout for direct elections reached 46.41 percent, higher than that of the last round of election.
The polling started at 9 a.m.
At this polling station at a Catholic elementary school, voters arrived steadily to cast their ballots.
Some had to wait over half an hour at some polling stations this morning.
There are a total of some 328,000 eligible voters with 38 and five polling stations set up across the enclave for direct and indirect elections respectively.
The polls are scheduled to close at 9 p.m.
This is the first election held after last year's electoral reform to implement the principle of "patriots administering Macao."
In direct elections with voters from the general public, 71 candidates are competing for 14 seats.
For indirect elections with voters from professional sectors, 14 candidates are contesting for 12 places.
The 33-seat Legislative Assembly will be eventually formed with the chief executive of Macao appointing legislators to the reminding seven seats.
This resident says employment is the top concern among youngsters, adding that many graduates fail to secure a job in recent days.

The voter turnout for direct elections broke the record since the 1999 handover from Portuguese to Chinese rule in Macao.
Chief executive of Macao Sam Hou-fai also cast his vote.
He said the election marked a new start of the "One Country, Two Systems" under which the legislators shoulder essential political responsibilities and must embody the principle of "patriots governing Macao."
Meanwhile, free rides on public buses and light rails are offered in a bid to boost voter turnout.
