Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised Austria for the continuity of the European country's China policy.
Wang also said China supports Europe in seeking strategic autonomy but opposes the idea of harming China's interests in exchange for deals. The comments came after Wang met with Austrian President and Foreign Minister in Vienna.
On Thursday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived at Vienna and met with his Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
In the meeting, Wang said the China-Austria friendly strategic partnership is the "most accurate positioning of bilateral ties."
Wang said China appreciates the continuity of the new Austrian government's China policy, and hopes Vienna will adhere to its one-China policy.
He said Austria should grasp the opportunities presented by the Chinese market and green industrial transformation.
Wang also said the current problems facing Europe do not come from China. He added that China supports Europe in seeking strategic autonomy but opposes the idea of harming China's interests in exchange for deals.
Meanwhile, Meinl-Reisinger said Austria hopes to enhance exchanges at all-level with China. She said Austria rejects the dominance of the "law of the jungle" and upholds the authority of the United Nations and multilateralism.
Wang later met with Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen. Pointing out that this year is the 80th anniversary of the victory of World War II and the founding of the United Nations, Wang said China's grand commemorations aim to strengthen the "correct historical view of World War II", "cherish peace" and "create a better future."
In response, Van der Bellen said it will be the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and Austria is willing to celebrate the occasion with China and deepen cooperation in various areas.
