Hong Kong Disneyland celebrates its 20th anniversary today, having first opened its doors to the public on September 12, 2005.
Some residents, who visited the theme park 20 years ago, shared their thoughts on the changes over the years.
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and other iconic Disney characters all appeared to celebrate the anniversary.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan was among the guests at the celebrations.
Chan said the theme park has become an "essential part of Hong Kong's tourism landscape and an important contributor" to the city's economy.
Some first-time overseas visitors turned up even before the theme park's opened this morning.
Filipino visitor Carla said, "It's our first time. Disneyland has prepared many exciting activities for the tourists. I'm very excited right now. "
A Disney fan said coming to the theme park has become a form of remedy for stress.
Judy said, "Because I love to see people dancing. Their (Disney's cast) dancing is very good. When I saw them, I could stand in the sunlight five times a day to see every show. "
Visitors can obtain a 20th-year badge as they arrive at the theme park on the day of its anniversary.
When it opened on September 12th, 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland was Disney's second theme park in Asia after Tokyo.
These two sisters shared their thoughts on what it was like to step into the theme park for the first time 20 years ago.
Angel said, "Unforgettable. Many people came to Disneyland to play. Because it was a very fresh thing in Hong Kong. Until now, 20 years later, many games have changed."
Hong Kong Disneyland had 7.7 million visits in the fiscal year 2024.
The theme park's net profit was 838 million dollars.
Looking into the future, Disney has two expansion projects: a Pixar entertainment experience and a Marvel-themed section.
