Government to halt taxi ban in the East Dam of High Island Reservoir

Sources say the government will make a U-turn on the proposed ban on taxis entering the East Dam of Sai Kung's High Island Reservoir from 9 a.m. to 6 pm. on weekends and public holidays.
The ban was supposed to take effect on Saturday.
To tackle the large number of taxis travelling to the East Dam during holidays, the government earlier submitted papers to the Sai Kung District Council, suggesting a restriction on entry during certain times.
It is understood that the proposal will be shelved after strong opposition from different sectors.
A government spokesperson said authorities are looking into various measures to improve traffic in the East Dam, adding that a modified plan would be rolled out when appropriate.
