Nepal's army briefly lifted a curfew it had imposed in the capital, Kathmandu, this morning, as it tried to reinstate control after violent anti-government protests rocked the Himalayan nation.

Residents rushed to buy groceries, while others took the opportunity to pray at Hindu temples.

The army took control of the capital on Tuesday night after two days of protests that burned government buildings and businesses.

Armed soldiers were guarding the streets, checking vehicles, and offering assistance to those in need.

It remains unclear who will take control of the government as the search for an interim leader continues.

The protests prompted Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli to resign on Tuesday. Oli fled from his official residence and his whereabouts are not clear.
