Poland says it and the country's NATO allies have shot down Russian drones that violated Polish airspace. This, in what Poland called an "act of aggression" as Russia continued its aerial bombardment of Ukraine.

Warsaw's Chopin Airport suspended flights for several hours, citing the closure of airspace due to military operations as Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his country's airspace had been violated by a large number of Russian drones.

Poland's Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said "more than 10 objects" crossed into Polish air space and those that constituted a security risk were neutralised.

He thanked the NATO Air Command and The Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force for supporting the action with F-35 fighter jets.

The Polish armed forces said a search for possible crash sites is ongoing and urged people not to approach, touch or move any objects they see, warning that they may pose a threat and could contain hazardous material.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said early indications suggest the drone incident was intentional.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 415 strike and decoy drones, as well as 42 cruise missiles and one ballistic missiles last night.

Its report said Ukrainian air defences intercepted or jammed 386 drones and 27 cruise missiles.

Ukraine's Emergency Service said a Russian glide bomb struck a village in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday as people waited in the open air to collect their monthly pension.

The blast killed at least 24 people, with 23 of them being pensioners, and injured 19 others.

The village lies less than 10 kilometres from the front line in the fighting between Russia and Ukraine.

With U.S.-led peace efforts making no headway in recent months, Russia has escalated its aerial barrages of Ukraine.

According to the United Nations, more than 12,000 civilians in Ukraine have been killed since Russia launched its invasion of the country in 2022.
