The foreign ministry has slapped sanctions on China-born Japanese lawmaker Seki Hei, who was elected to Japan's upper house in July.
All punitive measures, including an entry ban to the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, will take effect immediately on Monday.
Seki Hei, also known by his Chinese name Shi Ping, openly visited the Yasukuni Shrine and was accused of spreading fallacies on the Taiwan question, the Diaoyu Islands, history, and issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang and Hong Kong.
Beijing said he violated the 1972 China-Japan joint statement, seriously "interferred in China's internal affairs" and undermined its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Authorities will freeze his property in China, if there is any.
Chinese organisations and individuals are prohibited from conducting transactions and cooperation activities with him.
A foreign ministry spokesman slammed Shi Ping's betrayal of his roots and conscience, saying China's countermeasures serve as a strong punishment and a stern warning to like-minded people.
