The Gale or Storm Signal No.8 remained in force for nearly 16 hours.

According to a weather expert, the signal lasted longer than expected due to its associated rainband.

The No. 8 signal was issued last night until it was replaced by the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 1:10 this afternoon.

Meteorologist Leung Wing-mo said the overall strengthen of the storm was perhaps not strong enough for the No.8 signal.

But he said the wind was strong in some areas, and in combination with heavy rain, the No. 8 signal was issued for the sake of security.

He added that Hong Kong might continue to see more tropical cyclones or typhoons this year due to climate change.
