Under the No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal this morning, a HK Express plane arriving from Beijing hit airfield signs on the side of the runway while landing at Hong Kong International Airport.

There were 137 passengers and crew members on board the aircraft.

Luckily no one was injured.

The Civil Aviation Department has reported the case to the Air Accident Investigation Authority.

After the incident, HK Express flight UO235, which arrived from Beijing Daxing International Airport, stopped on the taxiway.

Video taken by a passenger shows passengers and the flight crew leaving the plane and were taken to the airport terminal by shuttle buses.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 this morning.

The flight was originally scheduled to land at 6 a.m., but its departure from Beijing was delayed by four hours.

The plane touched down in Hong Kong at around 10:30 a.m.

The aircraft was suspected to have veered off the North Runway and hit airfield signs on the side.

The Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 was in force at the time, with wind speed at Chek Lap Kok ranging from 30 to 50 kilometres per hour.

This passenger said he experienced a great impact and the plane was like running on a burst tyre, adding that he had never encountered such a bumpy flight before.

The North Runway reopened at 12:15 p.m.

The Civil Aviation Department said it is highly concerned about the incident and is closely following up the matter with HK Express.

Steven Cheung, chairman of Hong Kong Professional Airline Pilots Association, said the incident might have been caused by strong side winds, and in such a situation, the pilot should immediately make adjustments.

He also noted that problems with the braking system or slippery ground could have also contributed to the incident, adding that the circumstances may suddenly change, which requires a quick response.
