The No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal is in force and will remain in force until at least 1pm.

At 9 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Tapah was centred about 170 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong.

It is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour towards the coast of western Guangdong.

Depending on the degree of weakening of local winds, the Observatory will then assess the time of issuing the Strong Wind Signal No.3.
