Flight attendants at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge have voted down the employer's wage offer.

This as the airline resumed operations on August 19th after reaching a deal with the union to end a strike that disrupted travel plans of half a million passengers.

The tentative four-year wage agreement that Air Canada and the Canadian Union of Public Employees had agreed on would have added up to about a 20 percent wage hike for entry-level attendants, and 16 percent for those with more experience.

Reuters reported that cabin crew would also have received 60 minutes of pre-flight pay on narrow-body planes and 70 minutes on wide-body aircraft.

But 99.1 percent of Air Canada's attendants voted Saturday to reject the offer.

Some say the deal fell short of their demands over pay for hours from the time they clock in to the time they clock out, as well as raises that will cover their increased cost of living.

A statement from Air Canada said both sides had agreed to refer the wage issue to mediation, and to arbitration if mediation failed, adding no strike or lockout could be initiated.
