China's Xin Zhilei has won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival with "The Sun Rises on Us All," known in Chinese as "Ri Gua Zhong Tian," bringing her major recognition in Europe for the first time.

On Saturday night, she was presented with the trophy by Chinese actress Zhao Tao, a member of the international jury.

Xin played the lead female role in the film directed by Cai Shangjun, which portrayed a tragic romance of former lovers by fate and unable to find redemption.

In her acceptance speech, Xin said she's proud of herself and expressed gratitude to the film's crew, adding: "To all the girls out there, if you have a dream, dare to imagine it and go after it -- you never know, it might just come true."

The 39-year-old grew up from a modest background in northern Heilongjiang Province, and first rose to fame in cinema in "Crosscurrent" at the Berlinale film festival in 2016.

She also had a notable role "Lili" in hit TV drama "Blossoms Shanghai" by Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai.

The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival was held from August 27th to September 6th at the Lido island, with 21 films in competition. This year's Golden Lion for Best Film went to American director Jim Jarmusch's "Father Mother SisterBrother."
