Despite the breeze, the weather remained hot in the evening.

As of 5 p.m., many districts recorded temperatures of more than 34 degrees Celsius, including Tseung Kwun O, Lau Fau Shan and Sheung Shui.

The Observatory said tropical cyclone Tapah will edge closer to the western coast of Guangdong.

SHUM CHI-TAI, Acting Senior Scientific Officer: "Its strong winds are expected to affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary gradually tomorrow. The Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No.3 between midnight and 3 a.m. tomorrow."

Weather authorities said Tapah will intensify progressively and skirt around 200 kilometres to the southwest of Hong Kong on Monday. But its circulation will be relatively small.

Depending on the tropical cyclone's intensification and distance to the territory, the Observatory will assess the need to issue higher warning signals on Sunday night.

Looking ahead, members of the public should expect heavy showers and thunderstorms on Monday. Showers will ease off in the middle part of next week.
