U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. is in "very deep negotiations" with Hamas to release the remaining hostages held in Gaza.
This as Israel continues its military offensive in Gaza City in an attempt to overwhelm what they say is a Hamas stronghold.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order relating to American hostages captured in foreign countries, and then was asked about the Israeli captives in Gaza.
"We're in very deep negotiation with Hamas," said Trump. "We said, let them all out right now, let them all out, and much better things will happen for them. But if you don't let them all out, it's going to be a tough situation. It's going to be nasty, that's my opinion. Israel's choice, but that's my opinion. They got to let them out. You got 20 plus ... you have about 38 dead people. Young, beautiful, dead people. And I'll tell you, the parents want them every bit as much, almost more, than as if their son or daughter were alive."
Israel struck a high-rise building in Gaza City on Friday after an evacuation warning, as it stepped up operations aimed at seizing control of the famine-stricken city of some 1 million Palestinians.
The military accused Hamas of using high-rises for surveillance and ambushes.
The United Nations said some nearby tents housing displaced Palestinians were also damaged, expressing concerns that more high-rises may be targeted.
This amid mounting deaths in Gaza, with at least 27 people killed in the latest strikes. Six members from the Afifi family were killed in a strike that hit tents near Gaza City.
Rida Afifi said the IDF keeps moving them from place to place but the killing continues and nowhere is safe.
Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, relatives of hostages marked 700 days since they were captured.
Liran Berman, the brother of Gali and Ziv, who were shown on a Hamas video on Friday, urged Trump to not let another day pass without their release.
"President Trump, if you can hear this, you have the chance to make history," Liran said. "To be the one who brings my brothers and 46 other hostages home. Please don't let another Shabbat, another birthday, another day pass while they remain in the dark. Bring them home now."
