The government is promoting outlying island hopping to fully leverage Hong Kong's tourism resources.
A legislative councillor representing the tourism sector said the authorities should target high-end tourists, while stressing a balance between conservation and development.
High Island, Hong Kong's geological heritage where hexagonal volcanic columns tower along the coast. From its magnificent uplands to breathtaking sea views, the island is majestic and lawmaker Perry Yiu went on a boat trip with TVB News to enjoy the scenery.
He said Hong Kong has great potential for island hopping, suggesting more water activities in different attractions, other than the signature Victoria Harbour.
He added that this was not just for photo-seekers, but also visitors looking for in-depth experience.
Being the largest island in Sai Kung, High Island comprises four villages, including three Hakka villages - Tung A, Pak A and Pak Lap, as well as a fishing village Sha Kiu. Tourists and local residents come for visits even during weekdays.
This tourist from Guangdong said she knew this place from Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, where bloggers said the island has one of the most beautiful walking trails in the world.
This local hiker said she hopes to see some guesthouses as she saw many people go camping here.
On the other hand, some villagers worried about overtourism that could cause disturbances to residents' daily lives.
This villager said the community used to be tranquil, and too many outsiders might create nuisance for locals. He believes economic benefits is not important to this little enclave.
This walker also expressed concerns about the damage to the environment if there are too many visitors.
