Three Hong Kong residents were found guilty of conspiring to carry out bomb attacks during the anti-government protests of 2019 and 2020, but they were cleared of terrorism charges along with four others.
Five of the eight defendants were found not guilty.
The cases date back to January and February 2020, when a homemade bomb was placed in a men's toilet at the emergency ward at Caritas Medical Centre in Cheung Sha Wan and another bomb at Lo Wu MTR station.
No one was injured in both incidents.
Prosecution said that the group had also planned to place a bomb in a Tseung Kwun O carpark in March of the same year. But police had arrested them the day before their planned date.
After a four-day closed-door deliberation, a jury of nine returned a verdict at High Court on Thursday afternoon, concluding a 163-day trial of the terrorism case.
Defendants Ho Cheuk-wai, Lee Ka-pan, Ng Tsz-lok, Cheung Ka-chun, Yeung Yi-sze, Cheung Cheuk-ki and Ho Pui-yan were acquitted of a count of conspiracy to commit bombing of prescribed objects.
The first defendant, Ho Cheuk-wai, second defendant, Lee Ka-pan and fourth defendant, Cheung Ka-chun were found guilty of an alternative offence of conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.
The eighth defendant, Chow Ho-man, was acquitted of attempting to make an explosive.
The court is adjourned to October 10th to announce the sentencing for the three convicted defendants.
